Meet Carlos Arias-Miranda

Engineering
Cranford, NJ (born in Venezuela)

Age: 20

Are you a member of any club or student group?: O.U.T.I.N.G. Club, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, Engineering and Architecture Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society – Committee Leader of Leadership, and the Student Government Association - Student-at-Large, Cranford Campus.

Favorite Class at Union: Mathematics

Why did you choose Union?: I chose Union County College thanks to my Aunt. She had come to Union County College to study, and she loved the campus, and the way the classes were taught.

What is your fondest memory so far at Union?: My fondest memory would be every day at Union County College because every time I am on campus, I feel as if I am home. When I go from class to class, it takes me about twenty minutes to go from one classroom to the other because I have to say hello to all the people I know.

Interesting fact about yourself: I am a very charismatic person. I like to meet people every day, and make friends all the time. I love sports and music, but I also love my life as a student and the career that I chose to pursue. I love sports very much. I try to do any type of sport. This summer I’m talking to Dr. Rajpara about starting a Cricket Club.

What is the biggest adjustment you had to make coming to college?: I had to leave my native country, my family, and my friends to be able to come to the United Sates as an international student. Language wasn’t an issue since I already knew English basics. When I got here, I cleaned up my accent.

Career or further education Goals: After graduating Union County College with an Associate’s Degree, I will transfer to New Jersey Institute of Technology to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. After, I am planning to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Also, I will establish my own engineering firm if God provides.

Is there anything else we ought to know about you?: I love music. I sing, play the piano, guitar and an instrument that we have in our country called the Cuatro. From all of these, I prefer piano the best.
