Advanced Students: English-As-A-Second Language
After admission to the College, all students whose native language is other than English are given an ESL examination card. Transfer students who have completed the equivalent of English 101 and 102 with a "C" grade or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. college will be exempt from taking the reading and writing portions of the Basic Skills Test and from ESL testing. Non-exempt students will call the number on the letter (908 965-6031) to make an appointment for an oral interview.
If the oral interview indicates that ESL courses may be required, an assigned date and location for ESL placement testing will be marked on the examination letter. This letter must be presented to gain entrance into the ESL examination room.
If ESL placement testing indicates the need for English-as-a-second language preparation, students must take the required courses before they can be enrolled in credit courses. Exemptions can be granted to some transfer students who have completed the equivalent of English 101 and 102 as explained above in the statement on ESL examination card.
The College reserves the right to deny registration to students who refuse to follow these requirements.
Call or e-mail the Institute office for an appointment for an interview: (908) 965-6031.
